Tell us about your community and its media. Do you have a newspaper? Local TV news stations? Great websites? Anything else? What works well? What works poorly? How have things changed over time? What information do you wish you could get but can’t?

Please list the City and State you’re telling us about as the title of your idea.

Tell us about your community ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. Newcastle NSW Australia

Why does the media glorify and reward the convicted drug dealer Shapelle Corby. The media doesn't realise the damage Shapelle was doing smuggling drugs, damages that drugs do to our children and yet the MEDIA would reward her.

I TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG AND SHOULD BE DISCOURAGE. THE MEDIA IS GIVING THE MESSAGE TO THE SOCIETY THAT IF YOU DO WRONG WE WILL REWARD YOU.

  2. Orange, Mass

I'm not sure if this where I should be posting, but maybe someone can tell me what to do, and how.
I'm disabled, and I was on wait lists to get into a handicap community if you know about it the lists are long. I finally got into a nice community in Orange, Mass. I have one problem with the area, a huge one. The only cable company in this area is Time Warner Cable! If anyone reading this is disabled (walking just one of many)you know what T.V. can mean to me. To make this short I moved in…

  3. Morganton, North Carolina

Morganton, NC, has a Mayor who after 28 years in office, continues to show his AUTHORITY by not only getting Morganton City Council to "change" the Public Comment policy and ONLY allow citizen comments during a SPECIAL 30-minute time frame just before the start of the monthly City Council Meeting, but twice now, one local citizen, a doctor and taxpayer who signed up to speak experienced a DEAD MICROPHONE during his allotted 3-minutes at Morganton City Council Monday Night. The doctor has worked hard and obtained more than 1600 signatures on a "recall petition" to REMOVE Mayor Mel Cohen who…

  4. Bernards Township, NJ

As a consumer, I am tired of becoming a victim of the battleground between cable TV companies and the owners of various stations. In our area, Cablevision is battling Tribune over paying for rebroadcasting. As a result, large numbers of consumers have had a local station (WPIX) blacked out. I feel that local stations should be on a mandatory broadcast list that cannot be removed from the air. Unfortunately, WPIX is the New York CW network, so we will not be receiving their popular, youth-oriented programming, not to mention their news, sports, etc. This has to stop, cable TV is…

  7. Steele, Mo 63877

The only local news I receive are Memphis,Tn. stations. I have Dish satellite and have spoken with them and they say it is FCC regulations. I have bought a digital antenna but the Cape Girardeau,Mo. KFVS-12 station is to far to get a reliable signal. Are any other options available?

  8. South Lake Tahoe, CA

We need more local, real news. Our local paper is mainly supported by the big businesses in town who wield all the power over local politics. The paper is mostly advertisements and the staffing has been stripped to a skeleton crew.

We need real reporting and that is expensive. Can we develop a Peace Corps for reporters? Can we support research into delivery systems so that papers can learn how to cut printing costs? Can we launch a media campaign to explain why opinions are not news and dialogue is not the same a arguing and the world is not…

  9. Online news, Fort lauderdale, fl

The online version of the Fort Lauderdale Sun sentinel is like that of so many newspapers -- geared to the lowest common denominator and similar to local TV news. I would gladly pay $10-$20 month for online news that was presented in an intelligent format and didn't focus on sports, crime, and celebrities.

  10. Phoenix, AZ

Phoenix is a complicated major market with few real choices of widely distributed media. The dominant voice is libertarian-free market only, with little give and take about the importance of public resources and ownership. Democracy requires free access to information of all kinds, so we can create communities that work for all of us.

  11. memphis, tn.

The local news here focuses too much on the bad things in the community rather than the good. And their reporting of these instances, such as crime, is so sensationalized to the point that people are scared to go outside, when statistically, if the crimes are compared to the size of the population, it's not at all as bad as they make it seem. And when there's bad weather near here, they have that super-imposed screen that runs the same information for hours sometimes. If there's a program on that you want to view, and it's in HD, their displays…

  13. West Des Moines, IA

Our community is served by a duopoly consisting of Mediacom and Qwest. Both are very expensive, and both have terrible customer service.

Mediacom invests in the richer area of town, while the older parts of Des Moines are left to suffer slow speeds, and outages.

We need price regulation, investments, and more choices!!!

  15. I am a journalist for more than 15 years. When i started my profession it was too difficult .

Since 19 years we have better opportunity in my lovely country Ethiopia. We have all types of media [press,tv, and radio]. You have in America developed community and developed economy. I have one important question for you. That is why do western media including yours have blurred mind about Ethiopia?. Why do you blacken the efforts of our government by enmity?. When you respond this question positively , we will share each other many ideas.
    Thank you so much.

  16. Hazelwood, MO

Hazelwood has only one FM radio station licensed, and it was moved in from Jerseyville, IL. Radio One owns the station, and does not provide any programming that serves Hazelwood and surrounding communities, such as Florissant, Bridgeton, Ferguson, Berkeley and even St. Charles, just eight miles away. We have a twice-weekly newspaper, one of the Suburban Journals; unfortunately, it's owned by Lee Enterprises, which also owns the daily St. Louis Post-Dispatch. They also don't provide much of the needed information for Hazelwood and surrounding communities. Hazelwood is the second largest community in the northern part of St. Louis County (only…

  17. In Rockville Dan Snyder owns 1260, 980, 570 for sports and information. He owns other stations too.

In Rockville, Dan Snyder owns many radio stations. He used to use 1260 for progressive radio shows. He replaced it with Bloomberg radio which to me does not have enough variety on it. He kept his right wing station 570 with his d information of right wing talk and had the Ed Schultz show on for a while and took it off. shows like ed Shultz, Thom Hartman, Norm Goldman, Bill Press should be back on in the area. There is more interest in them then what dan snyder is putting on and he obviously is showing a political agenda…

  18. Mozelle, KY

I have Dish Satellite tv. I live in Kentucky, but my 'local' stations are from Tennessee. Now, Tennessee news is interesting up to a point, but not what I want to see or hear. The satellite reception is good, but I don't receive local news or weather. The Tennessee stations do not give weather for my location and do not follow severe weather warnings and watches. This can be critical in some incidents when high water or ice storms are imminent. If it is the law that I receive these stations, then why are they not required to give me…

  19. las vegas, nevada

Our news agencies in the Las Vegas/Henderson areas are bland and censored (especially the Review Journal newspaper. If they don't like your post, it is deleted or moved many pages back. George Knapp is the best investigative reporter... too bad he is kept away from the "real" news stories. I wouldn't give a burnt match for the rest of the "over-opinionated", so-called investigative reporters.

  20. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

    SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
The Technology is an increasing part of today’s culture, especially for children and youth, it is educated people and family members responsibility to control and set limit to use of machines in order to live healthy and safe lives. FCC and Department of food and drug administration should force for health warning from internet service providers to issue addiction for health and safety reasons. Internet service providers should not support fake chat rooms and social networking users to keep innocent public busy for numbers of user policy.

We have experienced that children's and youth who…
