Fresno's television news stations tend to swing between shallow and sensational. The dominant radio station mocks and attacks people and positions that are not in harmony with its rigid definition of being conservative. The Fresno Bee tends to treat city officialdom with a light touch, is mostly superficial about problems related to homelessness, water, pesticides, etc. It did an in depth, credible job on air pollution but has not stayed with it. The Community Alliance opens up many stories that the Bee does not cover but it is hampered by its monthly publication cycle. It would be nice if the tv stations were to use stories in the Alliance as a basis for more serious, in depth reporting; and if the Alliance could be funded so that it could become a thriving weekly.
